Reveals how to exploit the IBM PC's open architecture for interfacing a variety of external devices, covering the different BUS structures, display adapters, diskettes, printer, hard disks, mice, and other matters.
By now, the content of this book is not particularly relevant to most people as the ISA bus is nearly extinct. But this book is written with great clarity from the person who designed it. It is useful for people who still use PC/104 or work on legacy hardware.
Great book. Should be reprinted as fast as fast can be.

When I bought the book many years ago, I had the usual great ideas. I even made use of some of his ideas for the game port, and the printer port. I still haven't found the perfect thing for the slot idea though. However... This book is well written, and easy to understand. I would even recommend it as text book in almost any school, except those in NYC. Of course I have many questions.... For the author that is.
Excelent for the home hardware enthusiast.

This book takes you from the 'What is going on in that slot?' question, right through to building something that you can plug into 'that slot'.Generic interface circuits are extremely usefull, allowing you to concentrate on YOUR hardware, and not the drudgery of working out how to deal with the slot itself. It's a shame its out of print, else I'd order it! As it is, either I need a second hand copy, or eventually my photo copies of odd pages off my friend (who refuses to part with it), will eventually need an index! To those who can use a soldering iron, but refused to risk it on their pride and joy, get a copy.To the publishers.... get it updated to cover PCI, and sell to those of us who are lost without it!
