...contrary to the above opinion. Dr. North shows very well that the Biblical Law establishes limits on the social institutions, the family, the church and the civil government, and for an institution to trespass the boundaries set by the Law of God is to be disobedient to God and essentially anti-Christian. Therefore, the Bible does legislate an economic system, and that is the system of free markets, unhampered by government legislation, except where violence and/or fraud are involved. The book needs to be read in the context of the message of the Christian Reconstruction in order to be understood for what it is. One of the ideas of the covenant theology is that the economic prosperity that the obedience to the covenant brings about is an evangelistic tool. The United States of America, a nation clearly established on Christian principles - even if it has deviated today from the original intent of the Founding Fathers - is a good historical example of that. The book is extremely good as a textbook for Christian children and for adults who have no formal economic training whatsoever. I have used it many times to teach Biblical Economics, and the results have been outstanding.
