Memories. Some memories are elusive, fleeting, like a butterfly that touches down and is free until it is caught. Others are haunting. You'd rather forget them, but they won't be forgotten. And some... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Heavy

Really heavy read about the direct affect of colonization on the indigenous people. A must if you don't know much about it. Should definitely come with trigger warnings for some people that also been through similar experience.

Review: In Search of April Raintree

Beatrice Culleton Mosionier's "In Search of April Raintree" is a masterfully written fiction novel about two Metis sisters seperated from their family and each other at a young age. The novel, although fiction, gives the reader an all too true account of the plight of the native people. The story follows the two sisters' seperate yet intimately connective lives. That's all I choose to say about the story line as the novel works on many levels. It is brilliantly written and intriguing how the characters evolve and influence each other throughout the book. To say any more would be a disservice to the potential reader. ENJOY!

An Awesome Book!

I am a high school student that just finished reading "In Search of April Raintree" and I must say that it is the one of the best books ever written! It is a story about a Metis girl named April and her sister Cheryl. She was taken away from her parents by social services at a young age. It tells how she struggled from foster home to foster home. Separated from her sister. It gives you a closer look at how foster children grow up and it isn't always pretty! The two girls have totally different values and beliefs but struggle to stay close. I must warn you that this book is pretty graphic, but people should know about what April went through. If you want a good book, read this one. If you can't handle reality then it probably isn't for you.

An excellent read, that can be recommended to many.

I just finished reading In Search of April Raintree, and have now discovered a new favorite book. As a Metis woman, I found that I could relate to many of April's racial encounters. This book gave me a new understanding of who I am, and solidified the fact that I am truly proud of who I am and what I am.

a book can move all races

I am writing this book review in Taiwan where are many ethnic conflics. I read In search of April Raintree in 1995 and was moved so deeply and then it became one of my favorite books. Cullton exposures the tough situations of ethnic minorities in white-supreme societies, and indicates a better way to her people and all human-beings how to conquer this problem by heart. I would to recommend this book to all readers and translate it into Chinese and find some publication company to publish its Chinese-version. Wish a just world.

I was moved to tears.

This book is a grim account of two native sisters in Canada. Both sisters are put in different foster homes and experience racism, discrimination and other injustices because of the color of their skin. The main part of the book is about the older sister finding her identity. She grew up denying her native blood and heritage. It's touching how she finally came to honor her native heritage.I was moved by this book and I experienced many feelings. Oftentimes I felt anger and other times I felt a deep sadness. My tear drops have stained more than a few pages. Excellent book and a must read for all people of all nationalities.
