Tim Cresswell's in place/out of place will not strike readers familiar with recent work in cultural geography or cultural studies as groundbreaking; much of the theoretical work does, as cresswell readily admits, come from a synthesis of the 'new cultural geography.' The case studies are also somewhat predictable - and some of it gives into the celebratory cultural studies 'graffitti as resistance' mode too easily and uncritically. Nonetheless, it's a fine introduction to the genre, the case studies make for insteresting reading, and it's a sure hit with undergraduates.
