I am a new psychotherapist and a patient of therapy - I highly recommend this book to both sets of people. The writing was clear, honest and something that almost everyone can relate to.
The View from the Other Chair

I found this book invaluable for anyone who wants to know what it's really like to be in psychotherapy. The book offers an experiential view of the depth of change that can and often does occur in the lives of those who choose to undertake this wild and unpredictable journey. While she doesn't offer a word for word running dialogue throughout the book, the author recounts conversations and the specific statements that were made by her therapist as well as the author's internal and external response to those statements. The reader is confronted with a clear example of the changes that can occur in the life of the therapy client. As a psychotherapist myself, I highly recommend this book to those currently in therapy as well as those contemplating it. Those who have completed therapy will gain a greater understanding of his or her experience by reading the story of another who is currently in the therapy process. I also recommend it to therapists as a great reminder of what it's like to be in the "other chair."
