Book Overview

Impressionism was one of the most important artistic movements of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Developed primarily in France, impressionism encouraged painters to capture the"impression" of light and shadow, generally by using feathery dabs of color rather than outlining shapes on the canvas. Famous artists associated with this school include Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and Paul C 1/2zanne.

Great starting point for younger children!

I love this book! More importantly, my 2 1/2 year old grandson loves it, too! He has several other books about artists and always enjoys looking at the pictures, but this book has him distinguishing one artist's work against another's! The other books are completely about one artist - this one contains three (Monet, Degas, Seurat). Jackson can tell you who painted what - that Degas painted a lot of dancers - and can give you a brief description of what pointillism is! I recommend this book to anyone with a small child!

Great Learning for Young Minds!

As a youth and into my adulthood I've loved art. And found this book to be a wonderful learning tool for the young minds of those that we bring into this world to help mold them into a fine appreciation of all the beauty that is around us. As are the rest of the books in this series, 'Impressionists' makes them familiar with these artists and perhaps their skills that they too could relate and pour out of themselves, no matter what their age. My twin daughters, now 3 1/2 years old, still love that book. And have recognized the pictures else where. That's always amazing, to see their little minds work! I think that these books make teaching our children very enjoyable in a natural, simple way.
