1986 Edition 450 Pages

Like everyone else says, it's a great book: interesting stories and good follow-up exercises for your students: true/false questions, discussion questions, vocab questions, and writing questions, plus more. For teachers without time to prepare something, this is the book. Mine is 86 edition with 450 pages, tan and blue hardcover. Got it for like a buck used. Here are the titles of stories inside: the dinner party, who's there?, the path through the cemetery, you can't take it with you, the storyteller, gentleman of rio en medio, miss brill, thank you, m'am, all the years of her life, the rifles of the regiment, all in a summer day, the sniper, too soon a woman, the wild duck's nest, father and i, the tell-tale heart, birthday party, zlateh the goat, the first death of her life, a game of catch, the story of muhammad din, a secret for two, the chaser, the princess and the tin box, ah love! ah me!, the emperor's new clothes, a nincompoop, old man at the bridge, the phoenix, the spider's thread, august heat, the father, luck, war, the gift of the magi, mason's life, stolen day, the fun they had, home, a pair of silk stockings, success story, the snake, the death of the dauphin, charles, rolls for the czar, the eclipse, love, the vampire, the trout, and difficulty with a bouquet. the stories are divided in to 8 chapters: plot, character, setting, point of view, tone, theme, total effect, and more stories. There u have it. Snag it for a couple bucks and u got a great deal.

Great Book

This is an awesome book, full of short stories. We are reading it in my en102 class, and I like it a lot. Word to the wise; If you are buying this for a class, check with the teacher on the publication date. I purchased the wrong one because it was $40 cheaper. Same book, but different stories, so be careful.

Impact: fifty short short stories

excellent source of education for ESL students, very interesting and easy to read book!

A fabulous collection of short short stories for teachers

"Impact" is a book my school has used for nearly a decade as an introduction to the short story, literary issues, and writing projects. An excellent selection of 50 short-short stories, "Impact" follows up each story with a discussion of some appropriate literary term, a selection of questions that are actually worth answering (as a teacher, I know how bad these usually are), and some really innovative writing topics. The stories are all first-rate, from Shirley Jackson's "Charles" to Hemingway's "The Old Man at the Bridge" to Arthur C. Clarke's "Who's There?" Most of the stories also hinge on some ironic twist, allowing that most difficult and valuable of literary concepts to be taught thoroughly. Although a bit pricey for purchase just to read, "Impact" is also an excellent collection for anybody aspiring to write short stories. They simply don't get much better than these!
