I'm a Champion Football Player

I have a recording of my grandfather, Wilfred Harrison, reciting his poem to me in the late 1970's. Wilfred would have come of age in the 1920's, so the poem does have some archaic language, but I feel that adds to charm and mystique. I have some extra lines to make it more complete as a children's story. I hope you enjoy reading it to your children and grandchildren. This the text of the poem:- I'm a champion football player I can score every time If the other side would let me But that's their fault not mine. The club at our day school Has got a team so strong The ball somehow gets bursted From kicking it along Next week, a match we're playing If ball is patched by then And won't we score some goals up We stalwart temperance men. I'm a champion goalie I can stop every ball If the goal mouth was smaller And my team'd form a wall! Next season we'll ace it Got our eyes on the cup We'll keep pressing forward and never give up. The reason why we play so well The team including me Are all brave band of Oak boys And always meant to be.
