This is both of my daughters'(ages 6 yrs and 20 mos)most requested book, and fun to read to them as you get to sing most of it. Tender lyrics about mommies and their babies, sung to classic lullaby tunes. Great book for snuggling.

I was given this book when my son was born, and it is by far his favorite. Each animal mother/baby pair has a read-it part and a sing-it part. The songs are revised lyrics done to standard lullabyes. The only song I didn't know the tune to was "Sleep, Baby, Sleep" (Sleep, Bear Cub, Sleep), so I made it up, and my son was none-the-wiser. He's 16 months old now, and he STILL calms down considerably when I sing the songs...

I was always uncomfortable singing songs with lyrics like "When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall", or the materialism in "Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird." In this book, five familiar lullabies are rewritten with beautiful lyrics about baby bunnies, bears, cats, ducks, and dogs with their mothers (and one duck father).
