brought stories to life

If the Prodigal Were a Daughter shares four women's stories from the Bible and then applies those feelings, lessons by sharing a parallel modern-day story. My thought as I read this was that the author, Janice Chaffee, could be a great fiction writer because she brought the characters to life so well. The book takes an in-depth look at issues such as humility, forgiveness, compassion through the parables and how we can apply them in our own life.

More than just the Prodigal

If the Prodigal were a Daughter is just one of 4 parables that author Janice Chaffee paraphrases. Written in today's language with women characters, this book is interesting and thought-provoking! It made me stop and think, and left me with new insights into Jesus' stories and how they apply right now. I recommend this book. Excellent analogies

Janice Chaffee's storytelling abilities are nothing short of pure excellence. She compels you to walk into the lives of "everyday" people and presents the parables of Jesus in an extrodinary, contemporary fashion. The reader is drawn into variables of these biblical stories as they are re-told through the eyes of women who witness and partake in circumstances that we face every day.I would recommend this read to all who embrace a parable of Jesus as their own and will enjoy Janice's ability to perceive a personal relativity to each. This is a must for those who coin the phrase "I can relate..." as part of their vocabulary.Take the journey for yourself.

If the Prodigal Were a Daughter, by Janice Chaffee

I sat down to read a chapter and read the entire book, unable to put it down in spite of the late hour. Janice brought to life the parables of scripture in such a dramatic way, bringing to my heart a poignant understanding of timeless truths. A gifted and blessed story teller, Janices' captivating characters reached into my soul, teaching me lessons I needed to learn and words I needed to hear. This important book spoke to me as it will no doubt speak to countless women who are searching for the tools to open the pages of the Bible so we can better understand the vital teachings that are as applicable today as they were centuries ago. This book is a must have for the contemporary Christian resource library, and a perfect gift for that special woman. Bravo Janice Chaffee!

Excellent, thought provoking read

As I was reading this book, I kept asking myself, which character in each parable was I more like? Ms. Chaffee's rewritten parables are insightful, detailed, and very much for today's woman. She has obviously done a lot of research as it is packed with information that helps to explain the parables if they were being told today. Like I said, an excellent, thought provoking read.
