I Wanna Be Me: Rock Music and the Politics of Identity

Another book about rock music by a college professor that is published by an academic publisher. It's an academic study. There are lots of footnotes. So I hate to see this book criticized by reviewers for being what it is, an academic study. It is not for everyone. It is not INTENDED for everyone. So of course it's boring, long-winded and dry for anyone who doesn't understand what kind of book it is. It's a book about the reasons that people give when they accuse white blues players of being racists, or say that punk rock is more authentic than pop music, or say that the Rolling Stones are sexist. It analyzes and criticizes those reasons. So be warned. It is not a book of rock criticism. It's a book of meta-criticism, critical analysis of criticism.
