This is a short, sweet day-in-the-life of a home with young children, from the grade-school-aged daughter's point of view. From getting up for school through going back to bed, she mentions the sights, sounds and smells of her cozy family life on an average winter day. Simple images like the family snuggling in front of the fireplace before bed and lines such as, "...the dishes might be chipped or cracked, but there's never been an empty one," sneak into your heart and make you feel warm, secure and lucky to be with your children in your own home, no matter how small. The final lines - which my older kids used to repeat with me - catch me off guard now, with tears in my eyes, as I read them to my youngest. Enjoy!
