This rare, practically unknown 1976 work is one of the most telling and engaging works I have ever read. The writer travels, talks to, and tells the stories of dozens of people who he has dubbed "Human Cougars." They consist of drifters, nomads, migrant workers, and others who live lift on the road and outside of society. The stories he tells are amazingly emotional and heartwrenching. Highly recommended.
