Practical Guide for Serious Fans

This is a surprisingly practical book for hardcore fans and students of the game. Author/Sportswriter Steve Fiffer shows us many aspects of baseball and what to look for, often in areas that even solid fans know little about. How to tell the difference between pitches, stealing signs from coaches, when to look away from the ball in play, etc. Contributing their wisdom are Carlton Fisk, Hawk Harrelson, (the late) Dick Howser, etc. The book is geared towards fans sitting in the stands rather than stats-freaks dependent on the wealth of data now increasingly available. The book came out in the mid-1980's, but remains a valuable guide for serious fans.
