I found out about the "How to get a job in _____" books at a University career center, and thought it was a great idea to get one! The book is not really current, 1993, but a lot of the information and advice is still pertinent. The book lists a lot of groups and societies that may be useful for people trying to get a job in certain industries, and although the phone numbers or contact info may have changed, you can always look the current info up on the internet! One of the most important aspects of job searching is networking, and this book has a lot of networking resources. For 89 cents, who can beat that?
