An incredible book

This book is awesome. I read it in 1980, and it is the *only* reason I passed (in fact aced) calculus in college. Its explanation of what is a derivative is simple yet all-encompassing. I would recommend this book if it were $100. I just bought two more copies because my original is so faded after 20 years. One is for my kids when they are older, and one was for my babysitter. Thank you Dr. Pine!

The best introductory calculus text ever written!

When I was in high school, I couldn't wait until 12th grade to learn calculus; I wanted to learn it on my own. I went through several rather badly written books and was completely baffled by the subject. Eventually I found Dr. Pine's book. After spending a week or two working through it, calculus became perfectly clear. I give this book my highest praise and recommendations -- one of the best introductory math books ever!

Indispensible for learning Calculus

Dear Dr. Pine- Thank you for your timely response. I am most pleased to have found you, and even more pleased to find you have your publication available. I am a 51 year old avid mineral collector, and a member of a local club loosely associated with the U. of Utah. Another member was working on his masters degree in geology, and he one day intimated to me that had it not been for a paperback entitled "How To Enjoy Calculus", by Eli Pine, he would never have been able to pursue an advanced degreee. He now has that degree. I have a BS in Industrial Technology with a major in aeronautics and was never required to take math higher than trig. My interest in securing a copy is to benefit my 16 year old son who will be taking Calculus next year in school. I have however taken an interest myself in mastering an understanding. Thank you for your concern for others progression.Mark Rushton

This book helped to change my life.

I bought this book in the early eighties as a high school educated construction worker who desperately wanted to go to college. I knew my math skills were not sharp enough to survive the rigors of college, so I hoped to make up for my deficiency by studying at home. Fortunately, I found this little book and quickly devoured it. I went on to college, where I made straight A's in three semesters of calculus and one of differitial equations. Today I am a successful self employed structural engineer. I feel that my success is based on the foundation of math skills that I began with this little book. My oldest son graduates from high school this year and I want to find a copy for him. I can think of no other gift that would be more valuable to a college freshman.
