Charming and Practical

This book is absolutely delightful in its rich colors, crisp illustrations and usefulness! Each of nine heroes is highlighted and then the situation is brought up to contemporary times to teach children that they can pray anytime, anywhere and God will listen. As a parenting author I look for quality books that can assist parents in teaching their values to children and "How Did Bible Heroes Pray?" is certainly a book I recommend to those with younger children. Great teaching tool on prayer

This book is a terrific pictorial teaching tool for parents and teachers to use to help children understand what prayer is--when people can pray and how they can pray. As the author of five books on prayer, I recommend it highly!

Best illustrated children's book on prayer I've read

I love this book. It's perfect for reading in children's church services, Sunday school classes, private Christian school 'reading times,' etc. My friend, who is a guest reader at her children's school, said this is the perfect book to read to the first grade class, and I agree. It references scripture to verify the given examples of different ways to pray that are all pleasing to God. I love how it encourages prayer in every situation. The book also has delightful illustrations that will capture a child's eye. The artist did a wonderful job. I also love the way the story is laid out and how the poem at the end is catchy and sticks with you. I highly recommend this book for a variety of purposes in addition to simply owning it just because your child will want you to read it to them every day for at least a year. :) Michelle Therese

The Power of Prayer

HOW DID BIBLE HEROES PRAY? is a beautifully illustrated book written by Monda Hodgson and illustrated by Hallie Gillett, published by Kregel Publications. It is a children's picture book that illustrates all the different ways a child can talk to God/pray by using Bible heroes as examples. This would be a delightful bedtime story book read to calm young children and let them know God is always with them, and they can talk to Him at any time, even in their own bed at night, so they are never alone. This book can help teach children to pray at a young age, so that they will grow up with an understanding of the importance in and power of praying and grow up with a personal relationship with the Lord. The book could also be used by Sunday school teachers, babysitters, and day care professionals, as well as anytime an adult wants a quick read book to calm and settle a child. Young children who have early reading skills will be able to look at the beautiful pictures as they read the book independently. I highly recommend this book as a useful parenting tool to all parents.

Prayer Takes Many Forms

In her charming new book How Did Bible Heroes Pray (Kregel Kidzone, February 2005, hardcover, 24 pages) author Mona Hodgson helps children explore the concept of prayer and how to integrate it into their own daily lives. Hodgson points to the heroes children may be familiar with in the Bible and shares how each of these special people turned to God in prayer. For each example given, the author cites the relevant scripture passage for further research and edification. As Daniel turned to God on his knees, children are encouraged to pray to God using this posture. As Samuel lay in bed listening to and conversing with God, children are reminded that they too can take quiet time in bed to pray. Next Hodgson turns to detailing situations when children might feel led to pray. Jonah's fear, Job's sadness and Jesus' need for "alone time" with his father are all situations to which today's child can relate. Reminding ourselves and our children that facing moments of uncertainty or disappointment with prayer is a valuable lesson we can offer our families and students. This book is geared at children ages five and up, as each page features only a few lines of text. A noteworthy contribution to How Did Bible Heroes Pray is the artwork of illustrator Hollie Gillett, whose delightful illustrations feature a broad cross section of ages and races on a pallet of beautiful backgrounds.
