So different ...so GOOD!

Superb! I've yet not finished the book and already feel the need to give my rating on this story. Different to what I have been accustomed from Ms Johnson, yet passionate with a strong element of adventure.I took notice of one of your 'customer reviews - Susan M "Avid Reader", and I'm delighted that I did so. Superb!

Excellent book. Ignore the other review.

After reading another reviewer's confusing entry, I felt I had to submit my own. I was thrilled to see the reissue of this great book under the author's real name of Susan Johnson. I purchased this book when it was out-of-print at some expense because of Ms Johnson's superior talent. A fan of her historicals I thought I'd give her only contemporary, written under the name of Jill Barkin, a try. I was not disappointed. In fact, I've reread it numerous times. That's probably the best endorsement a reader can give a work. The plot was tight and compelling, the romance hot and satisfying, the characters well drawn, interesting, and wholly believable. I highly recommend this to readers. The other reviewer mentioned this wasn't like Ms Johnson's recent works and they were right...it was written years ago and it follows her older "style." I am afraid Ms Johnson gave into pressure from somewhere to dummy-down her writings, to forget the footnotes that taught and expanded the knowledge of readers with brains, to leave out the rich descriptions and characterizations. Still Ms Johnson can be counted on to be literate and accurate. Oft times I hoot with laughter or wince with embarrassment reading the errors-grammatical and historical - some books have in them. Even a weaker work by Ms Johnson, which this book isn't, reads better than most authors can come up with on their best day. I highly recommend this book.
