Book Overview

It's summertime in Bed-Stuy "Do or Die" Brooklyn, and Kate is feeling down in the dumps. Not only is she tired of her raggedy, tomboy image, but she's also missing her best friend, Felicia, who's away for the summer. Lonely and not exactly getting along with her new foster mother, Lynn, Kate so badly wants to be out and about, twirling pretty, and partying---and maybe catching the attention of her longtime crush, Charles.

NYC Teens Love HOT GIRL

"Teacher, why can't we read books like this in school!!??" She flashes a copy of HOT GIRL, by Dream Jordan in my face. She explains that HOT GIRL is the story of Kate, an urban teenage girl, who starts messing up in school, at home and with boys because she starts following a girl who only values boys and "bling" (money). But she starts to follow her own mind and does the right thing. After reading my student's copy of the book, I found her review to be quite accurate. I also found the story of Kate to be engaging and well written. I purchased some additional copies and HOT GIRL has spread like wild fire among the students at my urban High School in NYC. HOT GIRL meets the NYS ELA Core Curriculum Standards 2 & 4: Independent Reading and Partner Reading. HOT GIRL appeals to both strong and shy readers alike. It's refreshing to hear the dialogue generated by this book. Having universal appeal, HOT GIRL is a very real and timely coming of age story. I Teach NYC

HOT GIRL-A must read for teens

Thanks to Raheem DeVaughn, staying home on a Friday night and real cold weather I finished reading HOT GIRL. I now understand better my niece's comment about the book exposing the secret life of teenagers. This is a great book for 14 and 15 year olds.It hits many real life situations they will face and exposes them to the power of choices. Fred in NYC

Dream Jordan is on her way to literarary greatness

Hot Girl was an very very good book, I loved it from begining to end. For this to be Dream Jordan's debut novel, she writes like a pro...I enjoyed how she put together Kate's character, who was very well rounded, sharp, witty, cute, street and a bit sarcastic also. Yo, the book is fall all ages and especially for young adults...I'm in my thirties, and I was glued to the book like i was in my young teens again....I was feeling it from page to page, and believe me, when my daughter is old enough, i'm gonna put Hot Girl in her hand and tell her that it's a must read for her. I feel that with this book, it's saying something the young adults, Dream Jordan talks about peer pressure, temptation, sex, drugs and so much, that there's a lesson to be learn in Hot Girl...and Dream Jordan, i'm definitely lookin' forward to reading your next book..

a winner!

As soon as I opened the box and saw the cover of Dream Jordan 's book I knew it was going to be a hit with my youth. Then I read the back and I was sure of it. My readers for the most part are NOT readers, and don't read as long as they have ANYthing else to do, so a book has to catch their attention from the beginning with the cover and live up to the cover with the content. Dream's book has it all and I can't keep it on the shelf! My youth are struggling with the many issues raised in the book: true friendship, materialism, being parented by foster parents, doing the right thing, issues with sexuality and boundaries. It's a terrific book. Boys and girls love it.

Wonderful Read

HOT GIRL was a wonderful read. I could not put this book down! I loved the voice of the protagonist. She was strong, smart, and painted a picture for me that was so clear, I felt like I was watching a movie. I'm a married mom in my 30's, and this book brought me right back to my teenage years. I would strongly reccommend this book to both teens and adults. Great job Dream Jordan!
