If you want to use Harcourt Horizons: About My World for homeschooling, you need: The student text (any state is fine, they will simply have some extra inserts if you get a state edition instead of the national edition) The activity book Optional: The teacher's guides If they are affordable and in your budget, I highly recommend them! I don't think they are worth more than $10 if you are homeschooling though. The prices range a lot, so I only recommend them if you can find an affordable copy. I really like this student text. There are questions within each lesson and it is at a very good reading level for students who are on grade level in their reading and even if your student is a little below or above, the wording is very age appropriate for their comprehension. There are questions and activities included in the student text, so it is not mandatory that you have the teacher's editions. The teacher's guide includes introductory questions for each lesson (and the answers), the answers for the activity pages, simple activities, reproducible blackline masters for vocabulary cards and letters home to parents (which have activities you can use for homeschooling), and suggestions for holiday activities. The teacher's guides are very straightforward and well laid out. They don't have a lot of extra junk, in my view, and I think they are very helpful! The ISBN's I have for this set are: TE Vol. 1: 0153396245 TE Vol. 2: 0153396644 SE text: 0153396407 Activity Bk: 0153225947
