I wish I read this book much sooner

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is or who gets very upset whether they think they have anger management issues or not. I used to think I was good at managing my anger, so I didn't understand why my husband asked me to talk to him. I thought I did talk to him. I just got quiet when I got angry. It's better than exploding like my husband did, right? Well, after reading this book, I learned my way of "managing" anger was just as troublesome as the way my husband's. I fall in the anger style of what the author calls passive-aggressive. After reading this book, I begin to see how stressful it had been for my husband to live with me. I now also know why my career had bumped into so many relational troubles. If I knew there were other ways of managing anger, I think my relationship with my husband would have been much better and my career would have been more successful than what it is now. I cannot change the past, but I can make efforts for the future, so I will work on improving my anger management style following exercises and assignments in this book.

good look at understanding anger styles

A good example of understanding, rather than controlling your anger. I liked the typology of anger styles and descriptions. I like the promotion of healthy anger, rather than managing anger expression. I would of liked more data on repressed anger. A better read than any other on the shelf!

This book gives you control so you don't lose control

This book teaches that anger is OK if it is understood and expressed correctly. First know if your anger is justified. Then how not to act irrationally with long term damaging consequences. How to express you anger that is fitting to the situation, or not express your anger. And the book goes into the many diffrent types of anger. Written in a compelling easy to read style kept me riveted to this book. After reading this k I got insight and understanding about my own anger and others that has helped me to greatly. 5 stars for an underreviewed book

Great book!

I bought this book for my husband who has a problem controlling his anger but as I looked through it I realized that I had a problem with anger myself. I've been afraid of expressing my anger most of my life because I had a very explosive father. I didn't want to become like him and I was afraid of what I'd do if I ever let my anger out. Engel showed me how to get in touch with my anger and how to release it in safe ways. I feel so grateful for the sound advice in this book. It gave me permission to be angry and helped me to understand that I have a right to my anger.I've even been able to deal with my anger toward my abusive father. I recommend this book to anyone who has issues with anger.
