Having read Professor Behrendt's non-fiction works, I was keen to read this book as her other works are fantastic sources for Indigneous Studies in Australia. I was not disappointed. This is not only great fiction, it serves to take the reader through major themes underlining recent Australian history. I could not put this book down! I strongly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Australian history, particularly Indigenous Australian history. The universal appeal of this book lies in the author's ability to carefully lead the reader through the lives of one family that captivate so much so that it is hard not to take each story to heart. The characters in this book are unforgettable. Set aside a day or two to read this book. And after that you will find a place for it in your heart.
