Lillian Byrd is a small-time reporter with a flair for making big-time mistakes-like getting fired for fending off the boss's son with an X-Acto knife and breaking up with her girlfriend for no good reason-so her investigation into the disappearances of women in the Detroit area might not be the best idea. But when one of the missing women turns up dead and Lillian recognizes the bizarrely mutilated corpse, she's in too deep to get out. Of course, it doesn't help that she's still fighting off the boss's son and ducking the intensely aggressive amorous overtures of the roughest dyke in town. Now, after simultaneously blowing the case for the police and revealing herself to the off-kilter killers, she's completely on her own. Can she catch the murderers before they catch up with her?"In the wisecracking tradition of Janet Evanovich, Elizabeth Sims brings us a delightfully down-to-earth character in Lillian Byrd, a woman who refuses to take herself too seriously, even in the face of serious threats of grievous bodily harm. Sims's tight plot, delicious irony, crisp dialogue, and colorful cast make Holy Hell not only an impressive first novel, but an honest-to-God page-turner." -Lauren Maddison, author of Deceptions and Witchfire
Elizabeth Sims is an amazing author. This was one of, if not the best book, I have read in a long time. I could not put it down until I finished reading it.

I'd never heard of Elizabeth Simms before finding "Holy Hell" reviewed along side my own book. The story sounded so interesting that I had to read it! Simms is a master at character development and weaves a plot with just enough twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled without getting overly complicated. Lillian Byrd is a fascinating character, and I hope we haven't seen the last of her. As long as Simms keeps writing, I'll keep reading.

i finished reading HOLY HELL a few minutes ago... i'm not sure what time i started reading it, but i've only had it since late last night! don't start reading it unless you have the time to finish it, because--trust me--you WON'T want to put it down! HOLY HELL is a gripping novel with enough twists and tension (of a few kinds) to make your head swim with delight! the characters are well-developed and even the ones who are only in the book briefly will make you fall in love with them... definitely an impressive first novel--can't wait to see lillian take on more crimes in the future! kudos to elizabeth sims!

This is a great book! I could not put it down. It was twisted enough to keep me interested with plenty of humor thrown in along with good old fasioned sexual tension. Lillian Byrd is a three dimensional character, a woman who doesn't take crap from anyone. Buy this book! You'll love it!

Be sure you have some time because you won't want to put this original murder mystery down. This beautifully written Lillian Bird novel gathers momentum as it goes. Join Lillian in her pursuit for justice as she challenges Bucky with an X-Acto knife, meets Minerva for dinner at the Great Enchilada Place by the Bridge, and encounters danger from other quirky characters. Elizabeth Sims maintains suspense well with surprises for even the veteran mystery reader. Will Minerva survive for another book? Is Lou just a big puppy dog or a vicious stalker? What crime will Lillian Byrd solve next?
