Holiness: The Perfect Word to Imperfect People

Dr. Mark Rutland has given the Church a wonderful book on the deep but debated subject of Christian holiness. What does it mean to be holy? What should a Christian do and not do? Dr. Rutland shows how this conception of holiness (doing or not doing) is not what the Scriptures teach but rather it teaches us that holiness comes through the grace of God. God's holy standards, His absolute holiness comes to the believer simply by the cross of Christ. What a wonderful God! The book is quite easy to read. Although Dr. Rutland is very skilled in writing, he doesn't spend time on the theological nature of biblical holiness or sin but rather he writes with a devotional view of holiness. He wants the reader to experience holiness from Scripture but not get lost in the process of doing so through the merids of key words on holiness. Rutland leaves that (theology of sanctification) to others. Overall this is a wonderful book. I greatly enjoyed it as Dr. Rutland uses the Scriptures, personal experiences, and great illustations to demonstrate what true holiness really is.

I enjoyed reading Dr Rutland's book on a Biblical balance of a holy life. His humorous illustrations help us laugh at some of the unbalanced requirements or liberties we may have preached to others. I have heard Dr Rutland preach a few times. Reading this book is like listening to him preach, he has you in the palm of his hand!
