***VERY GOOD BOOK***

I really enjoyed the history part of this book. Catriona was a real rebel. Jennet on the other hand was nothing but a whore, she couldn't get along without a man in her bed. She made as many wrong choices as a person could make. Seems everyone was in love with someone but they were afraid to make their feelings known. Ms Bartlett described the life of the crofters on Skye very well. The book starts in April of 1881 and ends in 1884. In June of 1886, the British Parliament passed the Crofters Holding Act, which guaranteed rights of inheritance and tenure, fixed fair rents, and required landlords to pay crofters for improvements to the holdings. CROFTERS LIVING IN THE HIGHLANDS TODAY still benefit from this legislation, the direct result of the struggles begun by the men and women of Scotland more than a century ago. So, all of the rebellious acts performed by Catriona, Fergus, Alisdair, Colin and Ian in this book, plus going to jail to bring their struggles to light helped the future generations in Scotland. I love reading books that bring the struggles of the people into the book. I also loved the book Joyce Carlow wrote about the struggles in Ireland under the British. "Emerald's Hope" If you like a book with all the historical facts in it, try to find that book too. It is on my keeper shelf.
