Most books I borrow from the library. Then I buy them if they are worth it. This book made me buy it. These are poems full of humanity and an obvious love of language.

disclosure: i am the author's ex-brother-in-lawi have a variety of poetry books on my book shelf, most of them well-known and respected poets, and there is none i like more than karen brennan's, "here on earth" (i keep telling her that and she just laughs). it's a small, unassuming book to behold, but when read, it assumes a disproportionate stature, because it is full of poems that are everything poems are supposed to be: sonorous, surprising, mysterious, earthy. please don't let the above review dissuade you from considering this book. for the record, anyone who knows karen would certainly rate her among the least likely to write a hallmark card kind of poem. blazes' review is just silly, so i had to say something.
