I am a huge fan of this commentary which dates from around the 1930s (I think). William Newell was one of the greatets Bible teachers of his day. A friend and colleague of D.L. Moody and R.A. Torrey, he taught thousands of people as a Bibke teacher in Moody's Bible college. This book is the best commentary on Hebrew I have ever seen. it is excellent for three reasons: 1) It is very easy to understand despite being very in depth. 2) It accurately teaches the word. You can rely on it to explain the deeper truths of Hebrews. 3) It does not avoid the difficult passages but tackles them head on.
Hebrews comes alive

Newell is always good and whilst this commentary is not quite up to the Romans standard it is pretty close. Newell is conservative and dispensational. He handles each verse at a devotional / semi-technical level in the main body of the text. This would be enough to recommend the book. But he also drops down into some of the best technical footnotes you will come across. My favourite part though is his clear desire to inspire rather than simply inform. His section on Heb 1:1-3 and his description of communicating IN SON has inspired me and many others (that I have shared it with) more that enough to justify the entry price alone.
