Book Overview

"Each page is artfully and distinctly rendered to be a visual depiction of the beauty of joy and diversity." -- School Library Journal Heather's favorite number is two. She has two arms, two legs, two pets--and two mommies. When Heather goes to school for the first time, someone asks her about her daddy, but Heather doesn't have a daddy. Then something interesting happens. When Heather and her classmates all draw pictures of their families, not one drawing is the same. This delightful edition for a new generation of young readers features fresh illustrations by Laura Cornell and an updated story by Lesl a Newman.

Great book - good story and good message

A lovely book with beautiful pictures and an important story well told. It has been a regular request at bedtime for the last six months from my two three and four year old daughters. They like it because it is a good story with good characters, simple concepts that make sense to them, words that read well and pictures that appeal. I like it for all those reasons and also because even though they have a mummy and a daddy I...

Writing from experience

I had this book as a child, and I absolutely loved it. The style of art allowed me to color it in as if it were a coloring book as I read the wonderful story. Heather is a very happy child, and she loves both of her mothers... and they love her too. That's really what's important.Highly reccomended. I read it again and again... I own it to this day.

Wonderful Book

Both my partner and myself fell in love with this book. Our daughter also likes reading this book. She likes it so much that she wanted to give one to her class so that they could "learn" that there are families that don't always have a mom and a dad.

Now I am a mother with a gay brother-in-law, and I really want my son to understand that families come in all different types. The bottom line is the love is the same, and this book really helps convey that idea. I also give this book as a gift...

Okay, maybe we can’t eliminate censorship (yet...#goals), but we can celebrate Banned Books Week with gusto by reading all of the stories that someone (or someones) tried to silence, destroy, or restrict access to. Here are 50 of the most frequently banned and/or most recently challenged books, along with the "who, why, and how" of literary censorship in America.
