True stories of the triumphs and tribulations of eight women who crossed the American frontier by wagon. First hand accounts from their letters and diaries, most written on the trail. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The author has taken quite a bit of poetic license that leads the reader to believe some of the things in the book were factual, when there's no record of things she writes about in certain of the stories. She writes about a couple of the women through today's eyes, without regard to the culture of the times, doing a disservice to the accomplishments of the actual women who lived in these stories. There are a few excerpts from actual diaries, but the stories could have used more for authentication purposes. A nice, quick read though. I like that she separated the stories into individual accounts.

This enjoyable book contains the compelling stories of eight pioneer women who travelled the overland trails. It brings to light not only their day-to-day struggles, but the joys, sorrows, and hardships they encountered as they travelled west. The author outlines their remarkable stories in a clear, descriptive style and includes excerpts from their own writings. An enlightening book!

Good book for an over view of women's lives on the journey West. I would have liked more details.
