Those of us facing serious or chronic illness usually have something in common: we pray for the cure. We do it because we're up against something bigger than our own strength and perhaps even bigger... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I've really appreciated this version since I've had it. This translation is very clear - easy to comprehend for most people. The chapters are in sections based on different ideas and events which helps a great deal with understanding what you're reading. One of the better features is that it's fairly lightweight and easy to take with you. I did find myself wishing that it was hard bound, just because it will take a lot more punishment, especially if you are carrying it with you a lot, but I guess a Bible cover would help with that also. Lynn Eib, who wrote the introduction, side notes and pages in between each book is a cancer survivor. Her style of writing is very down to earth and she doesn't offer up any trite words of comfort. Everyone who has dealt with cancer or any other long term illness knows what I'm talking about. She offers her own personal story and encouragements that make the book much more personal. She also does an excellent job of making the passages much more understandable. I personally have a chronic disease and I found the words of encouragement very helpful in getting through the down times. I was recently hospitalized and brought it along with me and found great comfort in it. I'll be recommending this to others in the same situation. While the book is focused on comforting people going through an illness, and it is excellent encouragement for those with cancer and also their caregivers, the words of advice and encouragement can be applied to almost any difficult life situation. I'd really recommend this for personal study and encouragement, and I'd also recommend this as a gift for a friend going through a difficult illness.
My new favorite Bible

I'm very happy that I bought this Bible. Functionally speaking - the translation is clear and easy to comprehend, the chapters are split into sections based on the shifts in ideas/events (this helps a great deal with clarity) and its light weight makes it perfectly convenient to carry around in my purse. Now, personally, I always thought that the Bible didn't need anything added to it, but I've happily changed my mind upon reading this one. The author who wrote the introduction, the side notes and the pages in between each book is a cancer survivor who is very down to earth and doesn't offer up any of the usual cookie cutter comfort phrases that suffering people know all too well. Her personal accounts and encouragement to the reader are an enriching experience, and the side notes have deepened my understanding of many passages. He Cares is focused on people who are navigating sickness. And not to belittle that at all, but I believe that the encouragement and scriptural focus points can be applied to and help a great deal with life in general in this broken world.

This book is an excellent source of encouragement for cancer patients and caregivers. The side bar notes add much, often giving insight for living in difficult situations.
