The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter is a literary masterpiece. It is a classic, and therefore, though the language and setting are old-fashioned, the plot is wonderfully simple and symbolic while at the same time the characters are intertwined and complex. If you read the book you will understand that the language and setting do not detract in any way from the story and symbolism. The themes of isolation, sin, and society's hypocritical contempt for sin can be translated even to this day. As a result, The Scarlet Letter remains a timeless and beautiful romance.

Come on people!

After reading some of these reviews, quite frankly, I am shocked. The Scarlet Letter is 5-star worthy, and then some. Hawthorne proves his brilliance through his astounding use of chiaroscuro and deus ex machina (Pearl). He also shares similar characteristics to Rembrandt, in that he is not so much concerned with reality as he is with inner feelings and understanding. The Scarlet Letter is one of America's first literary masterpieces, and should be required in every American literature class in the country.

This is a great book that would really help today's society!

I read this book for my high school english class and I thought that it was one of the greatest books ever written. This book truly shows the consequences of our actions that directly effect ourselves and others. By reading this book, you have a greater understanding of the impact of your sins.

Thank God for Cliff

I am so thankful that Cliff made these notes or I would be failing English right now! The book is horrible but thanks to the notes I now have an A on all of the tests!!

What is wrong with you people?

This is classic literature at its best. It is really sad that the people of today do not have the attention spans or inteligence to enjoy a piece of classical literature with themes that will last as long as man exists. You people are missing something wonderul. There's a reason this book and ones like have lasted for so long.
