This book is among my very large collection of ghost books. It is way up there as one of my favorites. I think that this is a very intriguing book. Nancy Roberts has written MANY books on ghosts and hauntings- and all of her books seem to be very well researched. In this book- some of the haunted places mentioned are: The Lizzie Borden House (Fall River, Massachusetts) Del Coronado Hotel (Coronado, CA) Whaley House (Museum)- San Diego The Winchester Mansion- San Jose, CA The Governor's Haunted Mansion- Woodburn, Dover, Delaware) Ashton Villa (Galveston, TX) The Pirate's House (Savannah, Georgia)- now a restaurant Lucas Tavern- (Montgomery, Alabama) Loudoun House- (Philadelphia) Carnton Plantation- (Franklin, TN) The Gaffos House- (Portsmouth, VA) The Myrtles- (St. Francisville, LA) Hotel Ione- (Ione, CA) The Alexander-Phillips House)- Springfield, Massachusetts) Inn By The Sea- (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) There are many more haunted places not listed here that are in the book. Each haunted location comes with a great black and white photograph - which is GREAT. I want to know what each haunted location looks like. This book has that great quality (which unfortunately many ghost books lack). Also, all of the haunted locations in this book are documented and well-known haunted places. FIVE STARS! Few people have visited as many reportedly haunted places or spoken to as many witnesses to unexplainable events as Nancy Roberts, and the personal, down-home manner of her writing style has made her one of the country's most celebrated purveyors of ghost-enchanted tales. Haunted Houses tells the stories of nineteen haunted houses found across the United States. Few of these stories will make your blood run cold, and Roberts eloquently expresses her belief that many spirits return for reasons far removed from any violent circumstances of their deaths or thirsts for revenge, but there is a definite level of creepiness in some of the tales recorded in this impressive little book that will have you checking the shadows in the corners from time to time. These stories are eminently readable; several are told in the words of actual witnesses, but all are described in a conversational manner. This is not a formal study of the paranormal; it is instead a collection of the personal stories told by all manner of normal men and women describing unexplainable events they have been witness to. All nineteen of the "houses" (with the exception of the Hotel Ione which has since burned to the ground) also exist to some degree as historical landmarks, many of which are open to visitors or operate as bed and breakfast inns which still welcome guests. A number of the legends come from the South, including several from the home state of North Carolina shared by both myself and the author. These are not ghost stories in the sense of campfire tales meant to frighten children or patently unreal stories that beg disbelief; these are the real stories of real people, many of them simply dripping with historical significance. Whether you believe or disbelieve the things you will read in this book, there is not a ghost of a chance that these nineteen tales will fail to touch you with their simple beauty and exceedingly human qualities.

I first read this book in 1996. I was so into the book that I could not put it down. It is wonderfully written and spellbinding. I was scared for days(that's all I'll admit to).

This book has proved to me that there is paranormal phonomina in our world. Sometimes hard to believe but this book will prove to be right. What other explainations are there for some things that happen in life. Read the stories, visit the places and have fun. And learn to look for answers beyond normal.

THIS MOST FASCINATING TRUE GHOST STORIES WAS THE BEST I EVER READ, I HAD TO READ EVERY PAGE , THE STORY ABOUT THE LITTLE GIRL WAS VERY, VERY INTERESTING.I AM A HUGE FAN OF TRUE GHOSTS STORIES, AND THIS BOOK PROVES THERE EXISTANCE.
