Harriet learns the hard way that sharing her Halloween candy makes her feel much better than eating it all herself. This description may be from another edition of this product.
We reread this book every Halloween! It gives us an opportunity to discuss selfishness and the consequences of negative behavior- like the way Harriet "cheats" her baby brother out of the "good candy" and the way hiding her candy becomes obsessive- not to mention Harriet's nausea after gobbling down all her candy. We really like the way Harriet counts and classifies her Halloween goodies- a fun application of Math. Our daughters have complete control over their Halloween Booty for about a week- and then it gets poured into the Family Candy Bowl- by then they have gotten their fill of their Favorites, and don't overdo it. Many years, as Girl Scouts, they have thrown the "leftover candy" to the crowds that gather in our city for the Veteran's Day Parade. Harriet is a Cautionary Tale- well worth the conversations it can inspire!
