All New Englanders will recognize the setting and love it.

I loved this book, the descriptions of places and events were easily visualized. The format of each character giving his or her view of events was interesting. And most of all the stunning turn of events, all the while keeping you sympathetic to the book's main character.
Soulfull and Gorgeous Writing

I don't know where to begin with my praise and appreciation of this book. Right off the bat I loved the atmosphere, the harbor and the lobstering, the lapping sea and creaking boats--and, in the midst of these atmospherics, the lobsterman's inner life. The author's ability to enter the minds and sensibilities of these four people is wonderful. We see how differing perceptions take their toll. I was especially impressed with his ability to fathom and render the many layers of the women. I'm definitely going to check out Mr. Weesner's other works. The writing is at once elegant and unpretentious. The people are likeable and complicated. The story casts a spell. I loved it.
Captured a Feeling

Mr. Weesner is a master at capturing what can only be felt by the written word. Harbor Lights is a perfect example of the author's craft. The story is a bittersweet portrayal of one man's attempt at reconciliation with his estranged wife. The alternating points-of-view caused me to identify with all of the characters in some way (although i was mostly drawn to the main character's daughter who seemed to be at the core of the family turmoil). I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to slow down a bit and ponder life's simple pleasures like baseball and the smell of the sea.
A fantastic novel about love, work, power and fraility

This is a superb book, written by one of my favorite authors. (Pick up The Car Thief and Novemberfest and see why.) Harbor Lights deals with many complex issues, and renders them clearly. What I thought was going to be a novel about love and marriage turned into much more -- quite a surprise... Couldn't put it down. Great writing and a great plot.

i spotted this book with its beautiful cover and i wanted to escape my cold city for the afternoon. so i started reading in my car and i finished this novel at home the same night. wow! i was blown away by the way this writer took me into the lives of several characters and into a part of the country i've never been. it may be sad, but the insides are as beautiful as the cover. i found myself sympathizing with characters you might expect to dislike and inside a story that somehow became own of my own. read this one--
