Hanger Volume 1 (The Dangerous Life of A Hanger and His Keeper)

Hanger occurs in the future Neo-Tokyo, where crime is at an all-time high. The nano machines’ drugs provide some addicted humans called Druggers super-cells, strengthening their physical and mental abilities. The Hangers are former Druggers who are temporarily released from their cells to capture fellow Druggers causing issues, reducing the Hangers’ prison time. The Hangers are often accompanied by their Keepers, regular humans, to ensure they don’t get into trouble. Hangers must keep close to their Keepers and must not break their unique bracelets called “Locks;” otherwise, their brains will be fried. Keepers are responsible for handling all Hangers’ urges and desires due to their drug withdrawals. Keeper Hajime Tsukumo and his Hanger 01 – Zeroichi are partnered up by Commander Yoko Onukita, the head of the Security Service Bureau’s Special Unit, Squad 4. Zeroichi only has memories of the past year and a prison sentence of 512 years. Even though Zeroichi doubts how strong Hajime is, Hajime proves him wrong by vowing to partner with Zeroichi for one year. They capture multiple Druggers to reduce Zeroichi’s prison sentence and to help Hajime pay off his deceased mother’s hospital bills. Because Hajime’s body cannot handle being healed by nano machines, he is at a greater risk of dying. Zeroichi tells Hajime not to get in his way when they are on duty. After their work, Hajime is forced to take Zeroichi home with him for one night and try to feed his insatiable appetite. Hajime teaches Zeroichi to eat his meals, even if it’s not his favorite because there are starving people in the world. Strangely enough, Zeroichi enjoys eating Hajime’s food after that. Zeroichi even goes as far as making a deal to capture the Druggers within five minutes in exchange for Hajime’s food. However, things take a turn for the worst when Hajime gets injured, and Zeroichi lets the Druggers escape so he can carry Hajime to a hospital. When Hajime awakens, Onukita tells Hajime the backstory of Zeroichi’s former Keeper, Akisato, and that he died in the line of duty. Zeroichi watched it happen and was terrified at the thought of seeing Hajime die. Akisato and Hajime both wanted to understand Zeroichi. After the conversation, Hajime rushes to talk to Zeroichi but is kidnapped by the men that escaped Zeroichi the other day. They drug Hajime and steal some of his precious blood, which is like a highly-valuable poison to the Hangers. Zeroichi rescues Hajime, letting the other Druggers know that Hajime is his. In the process, Hajime’s Lock gets broken, frying Zeroichi’s brain until Hajime uses his blood to bring Zeroichi back through a kiss. Even though Zeroichi pays for Hajime to have constant bodyguards by extending his prison sentence, Hajime confronts Zeroichi and tells him not to do this. They come to an agreement that Zeroichi will protect Hajime 24/7 by moving into his place. Hajime cooks and provides Zeroichi with some interesting reading material. However, Zeroichi considers it a pain when Hajime suggests they go after the most wanted criminals to reduce his sentence by decades. Shortly after, Hajime meets the Hanger Hitotsuki Hashima and his Keeper, Masato Hibiki, who are proficient at capturing the most wanted criminals, making them Zeroichi’s and Hajime’s number 1 competitors. Hibiki only appears to care about the results of their missions, while Hashima is interested in being around both men and women in bed. It becomes an issue for Zeroichi when Hashima sets his sights on Hajime. Not only that but Zeroichi and Hajime have to rescue people from the terrorist attacks of Druggers, which seem to be connected with Hibiki and Hashima’s capture of the terrorist boss. Later, Hajime eavesdrops on Zeroichi’s female Hanger friend, Byakuran, and Zeroichi’s conversation. After their discussion, Byakuran meets her Keeper, Zemu. Byakuran reveals that Hajime will be her savior. Speaking of a savior, Byakuran ends up being Hashima’s savior in the end by regenerat
