Good book.

This is a great book, if you love the hatchet series you will love this. Gary Paulsen is a man who had done many things and this book details a handful of things. Unrelated to the book: my used copy had lots of hair in between the pages, it was weird but no harm was done.

Gary Paulson has GUTS

Wow, what a book. This very open account of Gary's life really makes you appreciate the wonderful details he always puts in the Brian books. Gary lived most of the experiences he gave this most loved character. I read this book to my 12 year old son (already a fan of the Brian Books) and he was absolutely rivited. He didn't think that he would care for a biography, but he found out differently. In fact, reading this book has gotten him intersted in the biographies of other people, as well. WOW! You will not regret purchasing this book.

true grit, high interest book

There seems to be very little Gary Paulsen hasn't experienced first hand: crashing a bush plane, being pummeled half to death by an angry moose, attempting to drag a 200 pound deer out of a swamp, roasting squirrels over spits, eating bugs, eyeballs, and guts... This is a collection of real life adventures that inspired events in Paulsen's novels. A must-read for fans of these books and for anybody (esp. boys) who love disgusting, dangerous, modern-day survival stories. It's easy to read and gives an appreciation for true survival skills in a world that has largely lost touch with such values. ages 10+

Guts-Want a good book? READ THIS ONE!!!

A wonderful book I recommend to you is Guts, a book by Gary Paulsen, a book of his childhood and what inspired him to write his many other books. It is full of adventures Gary had throughout his life. One thing is how he survives growing up in rural areas. Guts tells stories of Gary hunting for food with his homemade bow that he wrote about in one of his best known books; Hatchet. He was only able to kill small game such as rabbits and squirrels but he and Brian are both alive. The book also tells about an elk attack Gary encountered while hunting that he wrote happened to Brian in Hatchet. The final reason is it gives you more information about who is writing you and your friends favorite books. Guts tells of his home life, childhood, and recent carriers. Did you know that Gary used to mush dogs in Alaska? I recommend this book to you because I know you will like it because he uses that special technique of writing that won't let you put the book down.

If You Liked Hatchet...

You must read GUTS, which describes adventures in Gary Paulsen's life that inspired and educated him, making his descriptions of Brian Robeson's experiences in the woods realistic. Included are the story of how the author was attacked by a moose, how he survived in the woods by hunting with primitive tales, and how he found and cooked food in adverse conditions. Readers who have loved Hatchet for years will appreciate learning the "inside story."

"Guts" is a must-read for Paulsen fans and anyone else

I started reading this book the day it came in the mail and couldn't put it down! I read the entire book in one sitting. In this book, Paulsen describes way more details than in his "Hatchet" series. It is very interesting how he got his information to make "Hatchet" very authentic, from being an ambulance driver, being in the air force, being in the Iditarod, flying planes, being attacked by animals, and having an exciting childhood. One thing I learned about Paulsen that I didn't know before was why and how he learned, as a boy, to be a survivor. You will have to read the book yourself to find this out. It is pretty amazing how he survived some of his experiences, all of which helped make the "Hatchet" series so captivating. Now I know why "Hatchet" has been my favorite book for such a long time. I think anyone would enjoy reading "Guts" by Gary Paulsen.
