Confusing at first but ultimately exceptional

Rosie Moon, 15, is irritated with her life. Her mom treats her like a 5 year old, her dad doesn't really care, and her younger brother is a nuisance. The best thing about her life is her best friend, Pip, until a rebellious new kid, Asher, comes to school. His parents are seperated, which doesn't help with the move. Asher and Rosie want to get away from it all and when Asher is accused of stealing a wallet, their dreams become a reality. They set off for their "crazy" adventure where they find themselves...and each other. At first, I was confused by the writing style. The book used words that I wasn't familiar with because the book originated from Australia. The book was also incomprehensible because it jumped to different characters, and I got thoughts and opinions confused. As I read more, it became clear and it was amazing. The plot was well thoughtout. Lowry used superior descriptions for the settings and people. It felt like you were there! The book showed situations that teenagers have to overcome these days. Towards the end of the book, I couldn't put it down. It was supenseful, a definite page turner. Overall, it was an exceptional book. Kids under 13 should not read this book. It had some vulgar language and usage of drugs. Reviewed by Flamingnet Book Reviews www.flamingnet.com Preteen, teen, and young adult book reviews and recommendations

Guitar Highway Rose

Usually I don't read books like this, but it looked good so I decided to read it, and I'm glad I did! It was a quick read and it was very intertaining. I don't know if I liked the writing style at first, but after a while it grows on you. I would definitly recommend this book to everyone.

Refreshing... Stunning... Beautiful

I loved this book! Brigid Lowry is my new favorite author! She has a gorgeous way with words. She writes in a style similiar to Francesca Lia Block but, unbelievably, more poetic. The different points of view was a real draw for me because I always love books like that. The story line is crucial, funny, and REAL. Lowry gets inside of the minds of her characters and allows her readers to follow. At one point everything is going along fine you feel like all is right in the world and suddenly Lowry jumps on you and chokes your breath away, I literally gasped. It's just like real life: "Sometimes you know where you are headed. You think you know what each day will bring....But sometimes you are wrong"Amen Lowry! 5 cheers for this book!

Guitar Highway Rose

Simply simplistic, absolutely amazing, gratefully great... some of the many ways you can describe this book. Guitar Highway Rose is an awesome book. It's realistic to a teenager's mind. Always wanting to get away from your problems, finding that "right guy" and having family problems. That's what this book is about. You could fall in love with Asher Fielding or Rosie Moon. Asher Fielding being the outcast and Rosie Moon being preppy but yet rebellious. Asher, after being moved from Perth to New South Wales, has to go to a new school meeting new people. Asher does numerous rebellious things like trying to change the dress code at his new school, trying to run back home without getting caught and running away with hippies and their daughter. Rosie Moon, who has lived in New South Wales all her life once meeting Asher Feilding, falls in love doing everything he tries to do. From putting dreads in her hair, lying to her parents about where she's going, and running away with him. The narrator is very hard to explain and hard to follow, going from Brigid Lowry (author of book) to Rosie, to a directory about teenagers talking. Once reading the book you will see past that and notice the great humor, sadness, happiness, and anger throughout the book. Brigid Lowry, the author of this fabulous book, hits every key point in a teenager's life. It's very realistic and easy to relate to. Written in 1997 it has had a lot of time to get around to younger and older people around the world. I recommend this book to any age in any area of the world.
