I was reminded of this book when I watched the new Miss Potter movie tonight (which was very good). I was so surprised by the other reviews for this book. I bought it several years ago for my mother in law, but I read it before I sent it to her. I loved it! I enjoy reading, but it has to be a special book. The great thing about this book was that it was easy to pick up and not get lost, but learn so much about these women. I learned which authors I would read and others that I would not. But, that is a great thing to know! I have mentioned things that I learned from this book to many people since I read it. It was a great overview that incites the desire to know more about your favorites--and that is a good thing. Sometimes it is a good thing to dip your feet in the water and find out if you want to jump in--before you do! If you are looking for an enjoyable book that does tell you what the authors believed (as much as they can) then this is a great book. I have realized that it is important at times to know what an author believes because it shapes what and how they write. And sometimes that makes what they write something I wouldn't want to read.
