This book is a great introduction to the preachers (and their sermons) of yesteryear: From the Apostle Peter and the Sermon that won Three Thousand Souls to St. Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, George Whitefield, Thomas Guthrie, Charles Spurgeon & many others. I learned so much MORE from reading & meditating upon these “old time” sermons - than I have from any sermon I have (unfortunately) heard in any church in all of Illinois the past 5 years. Christ is not present in the Churches in IL - primarily becuz the preachers talk about your best life now, God giving you health, wealth, abundance, prosperity & constant elevation etc. They do not preach the true Gospel of Jesus as the old guys did - they preach the FULLY FALSE Prosperity Gospel.
So many of the sermons in this great book prompted me to buy entire books written by some of the Puritan theologians & preachers in it - just to hear and learn MORE from them.
A great introductory read to those seeking & hungry for Biblical truth from the sermons of our forefathers in Christ. I highly recommend buying this book.

This book contains twenty-five of the finest sermons ever given. From Jesus, Isaiah, and Paul to Clement, Chrysostom, and Augustine; from the Venerable Bede, Luther, and Calvin to Edwards, Chalmers, and Whitefield; and all the way to Finney, Wesley, Spurgeon, and Morgan - this book covers the spectrum of Christian preaching from beginning to end. Pastors can read them to learn more about preaching, historians can read them as Christian history, and Bible teachers can read them to learn how these great men taught, but no one can read these sermons and not be turned toward God. This is an excellent collection of excellent sermons by excellent men of God - what more do you need?
