Treasured recipes from Rose’s Restaurant in Portland Oregon
Published by Karen F. , 3 years ago
I grew up in Portland Oregon and we used to frequent Roses Restaurant on a regular basis. The sandwiches were huge and the pastry case was spectacular. The cinnamon roll recipe in the cookbook is amazing and they taste exactly as I remember. It is a buttery dough that bakes up beautifully. I make them plate size just as I remember from her restaurant. She has included most, if not all, of her pastry recipes. I remember the very tall cakes, gigantic plate sized glazed donuts and the flakey cream filled Napoleons. The best bakery that was in Portland! This book is to be treasured. I cannot recommend this enough! Just buy it before all the copies are gone, as it is no longer published.

One of America's best kept secrets! There are some knockout recipes in here. She's not an expert at explaining some of her recipes and doesn't go into tecnique much, but believe me, there are some incredible desserts in this wonderful book.

When I was 12, my father asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I said "Nothing...just a cake" and he went to Grandma Rose's book, and chose a mocha cake recipe that used a dozen eggs! The cake was giagantic and delicious. 28 years later I still remember how good it tasted!
Out of this world

My mother purchased this book years ago and I cherished it and looked for it for years and bought it the minute I found it. There is not a bad recipe in the book. All are wonderfully old-world and tasty. I have gotten many compliments on baked goods from Grandma Rose's book. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a great love of pastries and desserts. It is truly a treasure.
Outstanding! Wonderful recipes, and very warmly written.

I love this book. It was written by a woman who loves to cook, and who was a professional baker for some time. It is a labor of love, with warm descriptions of how she started out, how popular her creations were, et cetera. This book has been compared to those of Maida Heatter, and criticized for not being as clearly written (since Ms. Heatter is famous for her attention to detail, as well as her excellent recipes). Nevertheless, I love this book, and have been delighted with every recipe I've tried. Moreover, since the book contains significantly fewer recipes, it is comprised solely of the best of the best. I, myself, consider that a huge advantage.Everything I've tried has been wonderful, and I particularly like the author's warm writing style. I highly recommend this book.
