The reader is given choices to make which determine the outcome of an adventure with a space monster who arrives in Cape Cod. This description may be from another edition of this product.
My daughter, 4 years, recently fell in love with the Choose Your Own Adventure series. I can understand, as I was rather fond of the variation for older children when I was about 10. The Bantam Skylark series, to which this book belongs, is much more age appropriate for my young daughter, but I could see it entertaining children up to about 8 or 9 years of age. Gorga is a purple monster from outer space that you discover on the beach of Cape Cod. Depending on what choices you make along the way, Gorga may become your friend and require your protection, or he may accidently eat you (this is, of course, not depicted in any kind of graphic manner, as these books are geared to the younger set). Of course there's a good amount of story to be had in between, and with 10 different endings and a number of decisions to be made along the way, it's entertaining enough to be read over and over again. The black and white drawings carrying the story along pretty neatly, and the story itself isn't bad and is more cohesive than some. The writing in all these books is... well, pretty mediocre, a little cheesy, but getting to be an participant in the story, and the daring themes make these books really appealing to kids nonetheless. My daughter's enthusiasm for them is rather contagious I'll admit. I think this book would have appeal for any book-loving kindergarten or elementary school child who likes supernatural subject matter.
Your own pet monster!

Ever wonder what it'd be like with your own pet monster? Well you can now with this book. It's written so well for children that they will want to keep reading if they are really into the book. You may be scared of the monster, or maybe you want to hide him from others so that it won't be an intrusion. Maybe you will get to fly on him like I did for my first ending as it shows on the cover of the book!
