A well crafted story

This book hits the ground running. From the first pages, I was invested. I really like the way scenes are described. The author knows how to make them clear and when to move on with the story. You get the feeling Sarath doesn't write with a thesaurus by her side. She's not an indulgent writer. She simply wants to tell a story. And, it's a really good story. I was especially impressed by her decision to leave one particular scene off the page. You'll have to read the book to see what I mean. Now..on to Red Gold Bridge.

an amazing read!

This is one of the best novels that I have come across in a long time. Strong story line, Great plot and the characters points of view and parallel worlds kept me on the edge of my seat. Very well written and I am so looking forward to the sequel. I absolutely loved it! I downloaded to my Kindle so I never saw the covers........

An Unexpected Delight

I found this shoved to the back of a bookshelf in Barnes and Nobles and felt that it looked like a moderately interesting read... A bit of fluff that could distract me from grad school homework ;-). Little did I expect to find one of the most engrossing reads I've come across in quite a while. For the first time, in a very long time I stayed up all night to finish the book and was left hoping for a sequel. Yes, the book is realistic in its depictions of war/campfollowers/disease and it is gritty and not everyone is left happy with exactly what they want. But the books we remember through the years are rarely the ones that end happily every after. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little bit different and unexpected...you won't regret it.

More POVs for your buck!

This horse epic in a parallel world has all the shifting POV and inter-twined narrative of a true masterpiece. This is the sort of fantasy book I've been waiting for.

I loved this book!

I loved this book! With its terrifically inventive plot and varied and compelling characters, I could not stop reading. I was riveted also by the language- beautifully written, with rich descriptions, dialogue and narrative. It's a complex and comprehensive story, seamlessly executed, that travels the gamut of all sorts of personal and wartime intrigue. One quickly falls in with all of the main characters and is eager to follow their fates. If Lynn and Kate can get back to their world, do they want to? What about Captain Crae and the boy, Colar, in this fearsome struggle for power? The author keeps the suspense up and the action in each thread taut. The dramas of battle and life are realistically realized. It's a fantastic read!
