Book Overview

Whatever I did, Goose did. Whatever Goose did, Duck did. When I sat down, Goose sat down. Duck sat down too. What's a little boy to do when a goose and a duck think that he's their mother? Especially when they follow him around, doing everything he does Newbery Medal winner Jean Craighead George's comic story and Priscilla Lamont's lively art make for a silly tale about boys, geese, ducks, and the rhythms of nature.

A little boy, Goose and Duck are a charming and winsome trio !

A little boy found a goose egg by the lake. When the gosling hatched it just knew that the boy was his mother. "That's how it is with birds." He took him home and the little goose became very attached to him and did whatever he did. If he ate, hopped or went to bed the goose did the same thing. The next thing he found was a duck egg. When the duckling broke out of its shell, it saw the goose "and Goose became his mother." Whatever the boy did Goose did. Whatever Goose did Duck did. They were a very winsome trio and had fun together all day long. When they tired, they went to bed. The boy was in a boy bed, the goose was in a goose box and the duck was in a duck box. Then one night Goose called for his mother, but the boy was asleep. Goose and Duck went out roaming the streets and a policeman picked them up. Of course Goose honked at the policeman and believed he was his mother. "Goose and Duck were arrested," said the neighbor. Off to the police station. Would the boy be able to get them back? This is an exciting adventure story with very appealing art work that will encourage the young reader to make his or her way to the end to find out what happens to Goose and Duck. They will become self motivated, the book will help them develop strategies for decoding words and increase their reading fluency (to say nothing of having fun!). This is a level 2 book in the "I Can Read Series," one in which the reader can read with help and works on "engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers."
