I love the Ken Tate Good Old Day books ...they will take you into that time era of when life was simpler...you can feel yourself relax while reading any of these books and wishing for life to return to those simpler days when it wasn't so pressured by today's standards. Worth buying ANY of these books !!

Makes me long for the good old days

Good old days in the kitchen is a compilation of stories from readers which center around food and their fond memories of life when times were simpler. I particularly liked the tale about the little girl who loved custard pies and the stories about the canning, baking, and cooking with delectable farm fresh ingredients. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys an uplifting entertaining read with beautiful pictures.

Back to the Days of Yesteryear

I was fortunate enough to have a Mom who bought this book. She loaned it to me and told me I would not only LOVE it, but would not want to give it back. She was right!! It is unlike any cookbook I have ever seen. Although there are recipes in the book, the main focus is on the stories that accompany the recipes. They are heartwarming, thought provoking, and in the case of one story I think of, even a bit sad. If you are older then 45, I would say you have lived some of the events in the book. If you are younger, well, you can learn allot about the way it used to be back before society almost mandated "Mom" to work outside the home. There are wonderful places, times, and people told about in this book. At the end of each story, there are recipes that you may not find anywhere else. For instance, LUMBERJACK BEANS accompanied a humorous and very interesting story of a couple who worked in a lumber camp during the depression. And how about SALT PORK CAKE? Not a usual find in a cook book, I am sure. But, it goes along with a short story about a person's remembrances and heritage, along with four other recipes. I found that I re-read most of the stories, wanting to savor the times, aroma, thoughts, and feelings that each one gave to me. Each story is different, with it's own feel. But each one is an event of the mind. They give insight to a world that, sadly enough, has almost disappeared from our lives. This book is fantastic fun! It can recapture some of what has been lost with progress. Try it. You'll like it!!
