Good Ghouls Do

Since being turned into a vampire, Beth has found that life sucks, in more ways than one. The main one is, her boyfriend, Clayton, was also turned, by her, but to save his life, not for any nefarious reason. As a result, he has to kill her, unless she can kill her maker first, at which point, both should be turned back to human. She just has no idea WHO her maker is, and she can't spend a lot of time trying to find out. She has to perfect a daywalker formula or risk being killed by one faction, avoid the hunters that either belong to an opposing group of vampires or are being sent by Clayton, keep what she is a secret, work on beefing up her transcript, cheerlead, and cope with the fact that she's attracted to to boys, one who wants to kill her apparently and one who should want to. She'll have to live forever to get it all done, the question is, can she? ***** Reading a Julie Kenner book is a sheer treat for the mind, there's no two ways about it. Beth is a sympathetic heroine who keeps you laughing even though you're on the edge of your seat. At the end of each book this talented author writes, I find myself mentally screaming, what's next, I can hardly wait. ***** Amanda Killgore for Huntress Reviews.

When we last left Beth Frasier, she had unfortunately let her guard down and was turned into a vampire. Beth was trying to become human again by having her creator destroyed, but while killing the wrong vampire she gets herself into a pickle by deciding to save her boyfriend from dying -- by changing him, too. Now Beth is back and ready to not only turn herself but also her boyfriend, Clayton, into humans once again. That is, hopefully, before Clayton decides that he needs to kill Beth. Of course, not everything is going well since the head cheerleader, Tamara, is still getting on Beth to decode the prophecy, which tells them how to walk during the day. Kevin, the college guy, is beginning to hit on Beth... Who can resist a college guy who is also a slayer? Little incidents begin to happen which leave Beth in situations where she is almost dead. Her parents, who can't stand each other, are beginning to talk once again. Clayton is beginning to be very secretive and just may be plotting against Beth. And so Beth just possibly may not have a date to the dance. What totally puts a setback in Beth's plans on solving all of these problems is when she discovers two secrets that can, and will, change her life forever. Being a teenage girl isn't so great, especially when you are a teenager and everything is against you. Yet, Beth Frasier still finds time to be funnier and wittier than ever. GOOD GHOULS DO is the perfect follow-up to Julie Kenner's previous novel, The Good Ghouls' Guide to Getting Even. And the HUGE cliffhanger at the end only leaves the reader wanting more... and hopefully there is more. Reviewed by: Randstostipher "tallnlankyrn" Nguyen

Oh, how I loved it.

Elizabeth "Beth" Frasier is the current valedictorian of Waterloo High School in Austin, Texas. She has a great boyfriend, Clayton Greene, a loyal best friend, Jenny, and an odd acquaintance with a cute college guy named Kevin. The down side is that Beth was tricked (earlier in the year) into becoming a vampire. Then she had to save Clayton from dying by changing him into a vampire as well. Kevin is a vampire hunter. The only reason Kevin has not staked them both is because they have yet to drink the blood of a LIVING person. Until such time, Beth and Clayton may still have a chance to become human again. To do so, they must figure out WHO Beth's maker/master is and then have the vampire staked. Jenny is using her journalism skills to investigate students, teachers, and anyone else from the school in hope that the list of possibilities (suspects) can be narrowed down. Once trimmed to a decent size the hard part will begin. Jenny, Beth, Clayton, and Kevin must test the rest with holy water. Of course there are major hurdles in the way. Someone, or a group of people, are trying to stake Beth into dust. Beth has just dodged an arrow from a crossbow when she overhears Clayton talking on the phone. And it definitely sounds like Clayton has hired someone to assassinate Beth so he can become human again. After all, Beth is Clayton's maker. Taking advantage of the romantic strain, Kevin is trying to win Beth's love and doing a very good job of it. There is also the fact that Beth stopped trying to figure out the day-walking formula for the higher up vampires of the school and it looks like they will have to force Beth to begin work on the formula anew. Lastly, there is another vampire clan in town; the Traditionalists. They do not want the day-walking formula to be found. If that means getting rid of Beth and anyone else in their way, then so be it. ***** If you missed the first book (The Good Ghoul's Guide To Getting Even) then run, don't walk, to the nearest book store and buy a copy! No, you do not HAVE to read the first book in order to enjoy this novel, but things will make a bit more sense to you if you do. Beth is smart, highly self-motivated, and very witty. Okay, sarcasm comes naturally to her, but that just makes her more realistic to readers, right? I am also very excited, because it LOOKS like there will be a third story to this undead adventure. Yippee! I can hardly wait! Author Julie Kenner will win awards with this new series. Out-freaking-standing! ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
