In the field with ecologists and conservationists

Consistently well-written, informative, enjoyable reports from the field of muddy boots, bat nets, and intelligent, dedicated and very interesting wildlife workers. Recommended to anyone who would enjoy learning a wealth of detail about New England fauna (and some flora) that you just can't read about in most books (because the field is too fast-moving). Ordinary citizens, even those who are bird watchers or leaf peepers, largely have no inkling of the situations and on-going events so well described in this book. I certainly learned a lot, and I am the bird-watching, eco-touring son of a professional biologist. The quality of writing is high, comparable, say, to the New York Times Sunday magazine articles or better. Imagine a year's worth of such articles, all on the subject of New England wildlife, many species of which are silently fighting for survival in an increasingly chopped down, burned up, polluted and paved over world. Recommended.
