A richly emotional account of the secret longings that can lead a woman to happiness... or to heartbreak. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet old-fashioned love story. Both characters were likeable and the book was very well written. A believeable plot line and passionate love scenes made this book one I couldn't put down once I started it. If you like happy endings, then you'll love Gold Fever!
More than a romance...it's a story about finding your life
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
This is a very passionate novel, not only romantically but emotionally. Kate is a 28 year old university educated librarian in her hometown. She returned two years earlier after an absence of eight years to nurse her elderly aunt who had raised her. She has been drifting through life since the dramatic end of her romance with childhood best friend and neighbor Ashley. Ashley's mother put an end to the relationship just before they were to leave for college together. The story surrounds Ashley's return to the hometown, how Kate deals with her feelings toward what happened and what Ashley is looking for 10 years later. The writing is superb. The story has plenty of twists and turns and perspectives. You feel fully satisfied at the end of the novel that you know the characters fully. I really didn't know which direction each chapter would take and was thrown a couple surprises along the way. I enjoyed this story so much I re-read it the day after I finished it. This is a keeper !
Long, Lost Love... Second Chances

After enjoying many of Lyn Denison's books, I finally got a copy of `Gold Fever' and read it in one night. This book is not pure formula; it is a genuine romance and a great story of two women who fall completely in love... the only problem is they fell in love over ten years before the book starts. After a rough start in life, Kate Bannister moved in with her elderly aunt then fell hard for her next door neighbor and high school sweetheart, Ashley Maclean. Ashley, from a well-to-do family, felt just a strongly for Kate. However, Ashley's family had high expectations for her; including marriage and children. Two things happen at once to Ashley to catalyze her marriage: Ashley's mother catches her in bed with Kate AND Ashley finds herself pregnant. The wedding happens quickly, alienating Kate and breaking her heart. Several years later, Ashley and Kate find themselves together once more. Ashley is seeking to divorce her husband and is determined to win Kate's love once more. The jilted Kate wants to believe in love, but finds it difficult to forgive the past. The women struggle to reconcile their feelings and regain what they once had.
This was a great read!

If you like romance and sexual tension, then this is the book for you. I read this book right through. I thought it was wonderfully steamy. Full of loss and heartache, lost opportunities and misunderstandings but oh, so worth it all in the end. When they finally do succumb to their feelings, you'll find yourself breathless as well. I enjoyed it immensely and plan on scarfing up more books by this author.
Good Read, Lesbian coming to grips with her past
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
I thought this was a good read. The main character is forced to think about her first lesbian love experience. She returns to her hometown and inevitably runs in to her first. Good job describing the emotional realm. Not really a 'steamy' novel.
