Going to the Zoo in Hawaii. By: Mora Ebie. Illustrated by Jon J. Murakami. Synopsis: It's time to go to the zoo! Every child loves going to the zoo especially in Hawaii where you can walk through... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Going to the Zoo in Hawaii, by Mora Ebie and illustrated by Jon Murakami, is a pleasant children's book about... a visit to the zoo! This clearly is the Honolulu Zoo, as the locations and some animals are readily identifiable. I wanted this book to focus more on some of the unique exhibits at the zoo, as opposed to the traditional lion, tiger, elephant, and giraffe. Where is the nene? Where is the walk through aviary? Even the location is uniquely Hawaiian... right across the road from world famous Waikiki! The text did note that the elephant has the largest brain of all animals. This is true for land mammals, but the largest brain on Earth belongs to the sperm whale. The illustrations throughout have a cute little myna bird somewhere, "looking over" the features being illustrated. Nice touch.
