Could be a reference book

Mr. Oakley writes a concise, detailed account of the "nifty fifties", a decade fondly remembered for the beginning of the space race, an infatuation with all things western, prosperity for the United States and only occasional aberrations such as Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Korean War.

God looks back

If you enjoyed Halberstam's "Fifties," but missed things like the Edsel, then this is the book for you. Mr. Oakley left no stone unturned, from Davy Crockett to Albert Teller. I dare you to find the lacuna in this one--and there are some very cleverly worded sentences to go along.
