God Talk

This book covers nearly all of my pet peeves regarding the way Christians talk. We get into some very bad habits in our "Church Circles" and we can sound like idiots if we don't pay attention. I've caught myself using many of the (let's call them bad) speech patterns that Randy VanderMey illustrates in this book. Once you become aware of them, you simply cannot continue to use them, or listen to other people use them, without cringing. This book is apparently out of print, so you will have to buy a second hand copy. Please pay particular attention to the chapters entitled, "Leading in Prayer: Lord, I Just Want to Pray" and "Addressing the Divinity: Lord," because 16 years after this book was published these problems have gotten worse, not better. VanderMey is very gentle with his words, yet highly effective. If you love God, you will want to read this book.
